Medical Scrubs Winter Trend Report 2009

Fall and Winter 2009 trends are darker than normal.  The downturn of the economy has influenced this year’s colors. Two years have passed since the recession officially began.  Many designers around the globe have had to modify their products by reducing the number of items in their collections, using cheaper materials, and simplifying designs in order to offer their customers something that they can afford to purchase.  The designers that have not made any cut-backs have also decided to turn to the darker side. Black and grey show the mood of the times and are the dominant colors of the season.

Trends do not only go to the general public, they go to the operating room as well.  This year, you can expect to see scrub-wearers in darker colors.  Many scrub manufacturers are stocking up in grey tones while others are filling the shelves with solid black.  Chocolate is also a big player in the color palette this year, which can look elegant and chic, and can be paired with other hues for variety.  A classic look that has made a comeback this season is basic black-and-white.  Elegant and formal, black scrubs laced with white stitching on the pockets look incredible this winter.

Both blue and green are always popular, and this fall and winter, we will see both colors in several variations from one end of the color spectrum to the other.  Of course, many more colors will be presented over the next few months, but for now, if you have any of the above, you can consider yourself fashionable in the O.R.!

Great news for fans of plaids:  plaid is in.  Operating room staff can stock up on scrub hats in several different shades and colors of plaids including Carson Plaid, Kelly Plaid, Rutherford Plaid, and many more.  Have fun with the colors this fall and winter.  The ‘in’ colors may be dark, but you can still light up the room.

How to Achieve Healthy Weight Loss With the Benefits of Soy

We all know how important protein is to any diet, whether you are trying to achieve a healthy weight loss or not. Certain fad diets tell people its OK to go out and eat as much greasy bacon as you want, as long as you stay away from those killer carbohydrates. As you probably have already figured out, this type of diet does not work. The main reason is that the source of protein comes from animal fats, and eating too much of it will take its toll on your health.

Be very thankful that we have soy in our world. It is the healthy alternative to animal protein for many many reasons. The incorporation of even just a small amount of soy protein into the diet every day is beneficial in the prevention of all kinds of diseases. What does that have to do with losing weight? Everything!

The key to healthy weight loss is proper nutrition. Once your body is healthy on a daily basis, it can perform miracles. Living a healthy lifestyle means choosing soy over bacon when you want to give your body protein fuel. When you feed your body the right way, you will get the results you want.

Soy contains more protein than milk without the saturated fat or cholesterol. Soya beans are the only beans to be considered a complete protein because they contain all eight essential amino acids. Soy protein contains high levels of a substance called Tyrosine, which helps to maintain our alertness and mental energy without the need for excess calories.

Soy is a low-glycemic index food which helps regulate blood-sugar and insulin fluctuations. This helps you to feel more satisfied and less hungry until your next meal, which is beneficial for weight management and control. Some studies even indicate that soy may stimulate the metabolism! How cool is that!

Soy also helps reduce the amount of fat that is stored in your body by converting fewer calories into fat from the food that you consume. Soy protein can also control insulin levels therefore reducing the frequency of sugar cravings. Since your body will feel more satisfied and less hungry, this will also reduce the overindulgent eating.

Soy also enhances energy levels and building muscle mass in a healthy way. Muscles burn energy during daily activities and exercise. Increased muscle mass burns more calories. Since soy increases the speed at which the fat cells burn the fat stored in the body, it once again affects your metabolism. Exercise is not mandatory for a healthy weight loss, but even the smallest workout every day can accelerate your weight loss efforts.

I had chronic asthma all of my life and could not exercise…until I began drinking soy-based protein shake meal replacements. I lost 70 pounds in 4 months and have kept it off for over 15 years now. The best part is that because of the benefits of soy, I can now exercise every day without any breathing problems. I was also able to get rid of all my prescription medications on top of it.

Do I have to drink a soy-based shake every day? No, I do not have to. If I want to go back to being overweight with breathing problems, I suppose I could stop using soy. But why would I ever want to do that? As I stated before, the key to a healthy weight loss and maintaining an ideal weight is the willingness to lead a healthy lifestyle. You can not lose weight and expect to go back to old bad eating habits without suffering the consequences.

A great advantage to living a healthy lifestyle is that you do not need to give up the foods you love. You can sill eat them, just not as often. You must replace some of those foods with healthier alternatives. The road to a healthy weight loss is littered with all kinds of snack wrappers, like soy nuts, protein bars and fruit. (OK, fruit usually doesn’t need a wrapper, but you get my point.

Since fad diets, unbalanced diets, diet pills, diet supplements, weight loss surgery and other short term weight loss methods are the cheaters way to lose weight, why bother? Cheaters never prosper and there is no substitute for proper nutrition. Take advantage of the many benefits soy can give to you and you will soon find yourself living the kind of life you deserve.

5 Things You Should Know About Using Laxatives to Lose Weight

For a number of years now, some people have resorted to “unusual” ways in which to lose weight. Unfortunately, laxatives for many people seem to be the answer to their problem. Well, this article is going to point out the reasons why you should NOT use laxatives when trying to lose weight.

The first thing to understand about using laxatives, is that although they may help digest your food a little faster than normal, using them on a regular basis will actually cause you a lot of pain. Avoid using laxatives unless you want to suffer a lot of pain when trying to lose weight.

Secondly, if you suffer from constipation there are other methods to open your bowels and relieve the tension as such. Drinking lots and lots of water is the most natural way of relieving constipation. Drink it before meals and after meals and at least eight glasses a day. Add more fibre rich foods to your diet as they help to speed up bowel movement.

Thirdly, if you are on any sort of medication currently, laxatives can actually make your medication less effective. In many cases they can actually remove any effect your medication is supposed to have for you. This is a great reason to avoid them.

Fourthly, the only thing you will lose by taking laxatives is water and body fluids. You will not lose fat with them. To become thinner and lose weight you need to burn fat and not lose body fluids. Taking laxatives will actually end up with your body becoming dehydrated. They collect water from your body and then pass them through your bowel movements. When this happens you will lose all your water and become dehydrated.

If you use laxatives and this happens, you could possibly be misled or fooled into thinking you have lost weight, but in reality you have not lost any fat, which is what real weight loss is all about.

Lastly, when your body becomes dehydrated through using laxatives it will begin to store water so that it can survive. Better known as water retention, this will make you feel bloated and will actually increase your weight.

The truth is if you use laxatives to try to lose weight, you will actually end up weighing more. Avoid taking laxatives at all costs because not only will you end up heavier, but it could have a detrimental effect on your overall health.

So there you have it. If you are considering using laxatives, then I hope the information in this article will help you to realise it is a bad option to consider?

Online Health Check Helps You to Audit your Projects

Prince2 the default for project management

Most of the projects in Europe are managed by Prince2 certified project managers. Part of the Prince2 training is the Prince2 healt check, which can be found in Appendix D of OGC’s Prince2 manual (Managing Sucessful Projects).

Use the project management health check

I used this wonderful health check for years years to check the current state of my projects. Later as a programme manager I have used it to check my project managers and help them perform better.

Every time I switched jobs I was surprised that I was the only one who had an automated Prince2 checklist (in excel). Now I created a website with the automated health check so everyone can benefit from it.

Online health check at healthcheck-online.com

With this website I found an easy way to share my automated checklist with the world. To use the Online Prince2 health check select the desired check from the submenu. Fill in your name and email. Select the ‘send me a copy’ box, to receive the results by mail.

Partial health checks available

The whole health check has 203 questions, which is a awfull lof of questions to answer. To make life easier I divided the health check also in sub health checks. One of the sub health checks is the Risk Management Health Check. I’ll try to explain the necesity of this health check:

A key aspect for the project is management of Risk. Management of Risk aims to identify risks that threaten the project and then manage them. It is not necessarily required to eliminate a risk (or all risks), that could be an disproportionate effort and could prove costly.

The project manager must be aware of the risks from the beginning of the project and not limited to one stage, but looking forward towards the end of the project. When decisions are taken they can have impact on the risks. So a risk assesment is a continous process.

Risk are introduced at any stage in the project, so good management of them is a necesity. The Prince2 risk management cycle is divided in two steps:

Risk analysis Identify the risks Evaluate the risks Identify suitable responses to the risk Select Risk management Plan and resource Monitor and report

The Prince2 Health Check contains the following questions:

Is there a Risk Log? Is it kept up-to-date? Are risks to each plan identified, analysed and acted upon? Are business risks identified? Is a formal procedure for the management of risk in use? Is risk assessment part of each End Stage Assessment? Were the major risks entered in the PID? Have risk owners been identified? Are risks monitored on a sufficiently regular basis? Is risk assessment part of each major change request assessment? Were risk likelihood and impact assessed? Have proactive risk actions been taken where necessary? Were any needed contingency plans prepared? Were all obvious risks covered? Were the risks and countermeasures discussed with the Project Board? Were appropriate countermeasures taken? Were risks reassessed when plans were changed?

Texas Health Insurance

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Texas leads the country in the number of people without Texas health insurance. Although nearly one in five Americans, are not insured, it is estimated that one in three Texans are uninsured. In Texas Medical Association report, “additional 5.5 million Texans – including 1.4 million children – lack health insurance”.

In a report published by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, “The uninsured are a diverse group that includes people who cannot afford private health insurance, working in small businesses that do not ‘ insurance, who simply choose not to buy health insurance, even if they can afford it, who are eligible – not registered – government-sponsored programs such as in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP), and recent immigrants.

The most notable omission from these reports is that it is often difficult for people to navigate the selection of Texas get health insurance. There are a multitude of choices and decisions. Do I get an individual or family coverage? Should I go with a health organization (HMO), preferred provider organization (PPO) or another type of plan? What kind of deductible should I choose?

The task to find Texas health insurance is even more daunting because, as you move from a health insurance company to another, you find that each offers a different set of options. Accordingly, it is difficult to compare apples with apples proverbial.

Most people do not realize that a full-service agency based in Texas health insurance can help every one of individuals and families to small business owners and Medicare beneficiaries understand the options that are their disposal to obtain insurance. Better still, these agencies offer their services and free support. It is because they are compensated by insurance companies, rather than the insured. Therefore, you can collect the benefits of their expertise impartial, free of charge.

Best of all, some of these agencies have implemented easy to use online systems that allow you to obtain quotes, compare Texas health insurance plans and even apply online – all from the comfort your home. In fact, you can view the plans of health insurance, life insurance, dental plans, health insurance plans and all in one place.

To obtain quotes for health insurance, for example, simply enter your details into an online form, and then provide some basic information about you and other family members you wish to insure. The system will then generate quotations from a variety of companies, which allows you to compare side by side. You can sort the results by a number of factors, including the health insurance company, plan type, deductible, co-payment, and the estimate of the premium. Once you decide which plan you prefer, you can apply online.

Every day, health insurance is a growing number of people with affordable health insurance Texas. In return, those who obtain health insurance rest easier know that their families and they are protected.

Why the Fat Burning Zone Does not Cause Lasting Body Fat Loss

I co-wrote this target heart rate article with Craig Ballantyne because we want to get the message out to everyone who keeps struggling with this outdated mentality that they must be in some sort of “fat burning zone” if they want to stand any chance of losing body fat with their workouts. We’ll show you why targeting a specific heart rate to be in this so-called fat burning zone is actually the opposite of what you should be focusing on in your workouts if you truly want to get lasting fat loss results.

One of the worst myths in the fitness industry is that you need to maintain a specific heart rate range in the fat burning zone in order to lose fat. But this is simply not true. Unfortunately, this false belief leads people to choose low intensity steady state cardio routines that are ineffective and cause most people a major lack of results from their workouts.

The quicker you get rid of the “target fat burning heart rate = the best workout” mentality, the faster you will actually start to get real results with fat loss and changing the shape of your body for good.

In the Turbulence Training workouts, you actually burn more fat and more total calories when you are OUT of the gym due to the high-intensity and variable intensity nature of the training methods in these programs. This phenomenon is not due to the elevated heart rate you experience during the workout (even though your heart rate will be increased from the supersets and intervals), but rather from the metabolic and hormonal response you achieve from the more effective workout compared to your ineffective “fat burning zone” workout.

Over the last 10 years, scientific research has indicated a couple of very important things to us about exercising for body fat loss. First of all, lifting heavier weights while exercising leads to a higher caloric consumption by the body in the period for about 1-2 days following the workout when compared to lifting light weights with high repetitions. So that’s why 6-8 repetitions per set is better than 12-15 reps per set when it comes to stimulating the metabolism for losing fat permanently. That’s one of the cornerstones of the types of training routines in programs that actually get results, like Turbulence Training.

Another important aspect we have learned from scientific research in recent years is that highly variable interval-type training is far superior to slow, steady-pace cardio exercise for fat loss and post-exercise induced calorie burning. In the long run, if you focus on the internal metabolic response your body is getting from your workout routines, instead of how many calories you burn during some sort of magical “target fat burning heart rate zone”, you will achieve MUCH better fat loss results. So not only is it more result-producing, but it is also more time-efficient to use short high-intensity interval training workouts instead of slow, long, steady-pace cardio sessions.

The only time you might need to know your specific heart rate is during the recovery period of the interval training. It is important to take enough time during your recovery intervals in order for your heart rate to drop back down significantly (allow it drop to approximately less than 60% of your max heart rate).

That way you are able to get more quality work done when it counts. You do not want to start your next high-intensity interval too soon, nor do you want to exercise too hard during your recovery intervals.

All of these details are provided in the interval training guidelines within the Turbulence Training program. And we’ll show you how to properly structure your intervals so that you allow enough recovery time between each. With these guidelines, you do not have to worry about monitoring your target heart rate or anything fancy like that. It’s just not necessary. Just follow the TT instructions, and you will do great.

So here’s the bottom line:

If you want to start actually getting the fat loss results you’ve been wanting for so long, do not worry so much about your target fat buring heart rate zone during exercise. Instead, make sure that you are working at a high-intensity and a variable intensity (according to your individual capabilities of course) during each weight lifting and interval training session.

The TT workout guidelines will give you all of the details you need on the specific rest periods to use between supersets and intervals. With these guidelines, you will start to see vastly improved results from your workouts within weeks of implementing the changes.

See below for a special free report on cardio training alternatives that create a much better metabolic environment for fat loss than traditional cardio routines.

Individual Health Insurance Reform Future Proceedings Easy To Insure Me

MARCH 26, 2010

This Week in Health Care Reform

Health care reform legislation passed the House this week on a party-line vote. Late Sunday night, House Democrats approved the Senate health care reform package, sending the legislation to President Obama for his signature. On Tuesday, President Obama signed the underlying bill into law, yet the House has yet to finalize the package of “fixes” that will alter the final implications of the legislation.

Health Care Reform Negotiations

House Democrats Pass Health Care Reform Package: The House of Representatives approved the Senate health care reform bill Sunday night by a vote of 219 to 212. The vote marks the climactic finale to a year-long debate over health care reform. In the final vote, 34 Democrats joined all House Republicans in voting against the measure. Shortly thereafter, the House also passed a package of “fixes,” by a vote of 220-211, that was sent directly to the Senate for its approval through reconciliation. On Tuesday, President Obama signed into law the Senate health care reform bill, called the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.”

Republicans Force Senate to Send the Reconciliation Bill Back to the House: Shortly after the President signed the Senate bill into law, Senators began deliberations on the reconciliation bill. Reconciliation protocol restricts Senators to 20 hours of debate on the measure, but it does not limit the number of amendments that can be filed. In an expression of opposition to the bill, Republicans filed 29 amendments to the reconciliation package.

After 10 hours of continuous debate, Republicans were successful in eliminating two provisions related to college financial aid in the non-health care portion of the bill. The Senate parliamentarian ruled early Thursday morning that those two provisions violated the chamber’s rules, sending the legislation back to the House for a new vote. As a result, on Thursday afternoon, the Senate voted on the reconciliation bill without those two provisions and sent the bill  back to the House for a vote on final passage. The House vote will likely come Thursday evening.

What Does This Health Care Reform Legislation Mean: While the health care reform bill extends insurance coverage to 32 million more Americans by 2019, the legislation has other far-reaching implications that will be phased in sooner, during a multi-year implementation period.

Several features of the new health care overhaul bill that would take effect in 2010 under the measure passed Sunday include:

* New product requirements beginning 6 months after enactment, including:
o Coverage for dependents up to age 26
o No lifetime maximum benefit limits
o And no cost sharing on preventive care for certain policyholders
* Temporary federal high risk pools;
* Tax credits for small employers; and
* Prohibition on pre-existing condition exclusions for children (beginning 6 months after enactment).

Most Americans will have until 2014 to purchase insurance or pay a penalty. Other elements of the bill that will not take effect until at least 2014 include insurance marketplaces called “exchanges”; rules requiring insurers to accept all applicants regardless of pre-existing conditions, and an expansion of state Medicaid programs.

A number of experts question whether health care reform will really drive down insurance premiums. America’s Health Insurance Plans ( AHIP), the trade group representing health insurers, outlines a series of concerns related to the legislation including a lack of provisions that address underlying health care costs, improve quality of care or ensure a stable risk pool. In addition, AHIP expressed concerns regarding new taxes on health coverage, which will likely increase premiums.

Additional Activities

Obama’s Executive Order on Abortion Funding: On Sunday afternoon, prior to the final House vote on health care reform, President Obama agreed to issue an Executive Order that would uphold the ban on federal funding for abortion . In so doing, he secured about a half-dozen votes from anti-abortion Democrats, led by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), who previously opposed the legislation. On Wednesday, President Obama signed the Executive Order banning the government from spending federal money to pay for abortions through plans offered on the insurance exchanges created under the measure.

States Filing Lawsuit to Fight Provision of Health Care Reform Bill: In response to the new health care reform legislation, states across the country have filed lawsuits asking the courts to declare the law unconstitutional and to bar its enforcement. On Monday,Attorneys General in 13 states, led by Florida, filed a joint lawsuit claiming that the new health care reforms violate state government rights in the U.S. Constitution and will force massive new spending on hard-pressed state governments. Joining Florida in the suit are Alabama, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Washington.

At the same time, the Attorney General in Virginia filed a separate suit contending that Congress has exceeded its power in mandating that people buy health insurance. Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli argues that the new law’s requirement clashes with Virginia law that exempts citizens from federal fines imposed for not having health insurance.

Senate Voting to Extend COBRA Until May 5:  Senate Democrats plan another short-term extension of unemployment aid this week, setting up a face-off with Republicans, who are vowing to fight the extension if the $10 billion cost isn’t offset with spending cuts. The bill, currently set to expire on April 5, would extend a series of emergency programs – including funding for unemployment insurance benefits and COBRA health coverage for the jobless  – and would hold off a deep cut in reimbursement rates for doctors who serve Medicare patients. The long-term extension has already passed in both the House and Senate, but the two measures are not expected to be reconciled and sent to the President’s desk until after the Easter recess.

President Obama Heads to Iowa to Speak on Health Care: President Obama headed to Iowa on Thursday to increase support for his health care legislation. This was President Obama’sfirst trip out ofWashington since signing health care reform legislation earlier this week. He spoke at the University of Iowa, in the city where he first announced his health care proposal during the Presidential campaign.

Public Opinion

Most Americans Want Republicans to Fight Health Care Reform Bill: In a recent CBS News poll, 62 percent of Americans said they want congressional Republicans to continue challenging the bill, while 33 percent said they should not. Disapproval of the bill has remained steady, with 46 percent saying they disapprove, including 32 percent who “strongly” disapprove. A majority of Americans continue to say that they find the bill to be confusing and do not understand what it means for them or their family.

American’s Split on Health Care Reform Passage: In a recent USA Today/Gallup poll, 42 percent of Americans said they were angry or disappointed with the recent passage of health care reform legislation. When asked to reveal party affiliation, 79 percent identified themselves as Republicans.

Polling Shows Support for State Lawsuits Against Government: National polling reveals significant opposition to the individual mandate. In a newly released Rasmussen report , 53 percent of those polled oppose the new mandate requiring every American to buy or obtain health insurance. Further, 49 percent of voters are in favor of their state suing the federal government to fight the mandate. Fifty-one percent say individual states should have the right to opt out of the health care plan entirely.

Looking Ahead

After this week’s final health care reform vote, President Obama plans to travel the country in the next few months to discuss the new law. Republicans have begun their own discussions of the law, with an eye towards the November elections.

7 Tips to Know if You Have a Healthy and Fit Body!

Can a person be both fit and fat? With a national obesity rate of nearly 30 percent, this is a question that needs to be answered. People do not seem to be actively looking for ways to be thin, and just because a person is thin does not mean they are fit either. So who, really, has a healthy and fit body and how can we get there from where we are?

First of all, most people think you have to hit the gym in order to be the healthiest you can be, and this is just not true. Although exercise does nothing but enhance your health, fitness is not the only answer. It is not always about how you look. It is not always about how you eat. Just like everything else, having a healthy and fit body has many components.

Here are 7 Tips to know, once and for all, if you have a healthy and fit body!

Healthy and Fit Body Tips #1: Proper Nutrition
Providing your body with the right food and liquid is the most important component to your health. If you struggling with weight loss and the inability to get yourself fit, start with a change in your diet. Eating right does not mean eating less. A soy-based meal replacement once a day works for me, along with a few targeted supplements you can not find in food.

Even people who exercise all the time can not be totally fit if they grab a bag of potato chips over an apple. No matter what you look like on the outside, your inside is what matters the most. If your body is not getting right nutrition, you can not expect it to look and feel good. You are what you eat. Never forget that.

Healthy and Fit Body Tips #2: Muscle Mass
Our bodies require a certain percentage of muscle to stay healthy and meet the tasks of daily living. This varies per individual, but after the age of 30, our bodies lose muscle mass each year. The key to restoring this is resistance exercise to keep muscle mass. To age gracefully by being fit, keep your muscle mass percentage high.

Healthy and Fit Body Tips #3: Body Fat
This your total body weight that is composed of fat. 10 percent to 14 percent is considered good for men, and 14 percent to 18 percent is considered good for women. Being too far below it and above it both have health risks. Unless you’re a weight-dependent athlete or a fitness model, you should strive to fall into your category.

Healthy and Fit Body Tips #4: Aerobic Endurance
I bet you do not think about how well your body transports oxygen, right? From shoveling snow to running a marathon, aerobic activity is a good indicator of good aerobic fitness. Your cardiovascular goal for fitness is simple. Get your heart rate up and hold it, then bring it down without becoming short of breath.

Healthy and Fit Body Tips #5: Strength
How much force can your muscles generate? Your body needs to be able to move stuff, and you, around. Mass protects your body, strength moves it and keeps it from falling over. Strength training requires short bouts of high-intensity outputs, much different from aerobic activity. Strength training slows the aging process, so the stronger you are, the slower you age.

Healthy and Fit Body Tips #6: Balance
Life is no fun if you’re always toppling over. Your ability to maintain control of your center of gravity is important for obvious reasons. To stay in balance your body uses smaller muscles to help keep your joints tracking properly. A person with good balance has less chance of incurring an injury. The next time you see an exercise ball, use it!

Healthy and Fit Body Tips #7: Flexibility
Your ability to move your body freely through a full range of motion does not require an advanced class of yoga. Simply start stretching your muscles more because they contract during exercise and the daily rigors of living. Keeping your muscles supple gives you a buffer against being injured and is an indicator of overall fitness. It will also help you age with less complications.

As you can easily tell, there are many components that are of equal importance in order to have a healthy and fit body. It is not just the way a person looks on the outside but rather a combination of many factors. You have the ability to change your body for the better just as easily as McDonalds can change it for the worse. The difference is developing the mindset of a person who chooses healthy over unhealthy.

8 Quick Fat Burning Tips

The statistics are scary – latest research from the IHRSA/ASD Obesity/Weight Control Report shows that 63% of Americans are overweight, and frighteningly 31% are clinically obese. On the other side of the pond, in the UK, the stats are not too dissimilar. According to the British Department of Health 23% of Brits are obese – the highest of all European countries.

With this in mind, just take a moment to think about the health issues of being overweight or obese – we’re all aware of the dangers. Anyone for heart disease or diabetes?

If you are overweight or obese these are very real dangers that could cut your life short. That’s why it’s critical you start including some fat burning tips in your life.

So lets look to some solutions:

Here are 8 quick tips you can include into your daily life to help you burn a little more fat, and get back down to a healthier, safe weight.

1 – Eat a high fibre diet; go for multi/full grain breads instead of white bread. Eating full grain bread will provide your body with the fibre it needs to keep your digestive system functioning properly and your body running efficiently.

2 – Cut out red meat and eat more white meat. White meats such as fish, chicken and turkey are lower in fat content than red meats such as beef and pork. When you are trying to burn fat you need to make the switch from red to white meat.

3 – Slash your sugar consumption. If you take sugar with your tea or coffee, stop. If you eat high sugar foods, cut them out of your diet. High sugar foods cause a peak in insulin secretion leading to storage of glucose as fat.

4 – Don’t eat too much fatty foods. You do need some fat in your diet (the right fats), but you don’t want to go overboard. One gram of fat contains 9 calories, so you can easily see how a few grams of fat add up to a lot of calories. Try to avoid any foods that exceed a 30% fat composition.

5 – Stop eating 3 times a day. Instead eat 6 smaller meals spread evenly throughout the day. You eat smaller portion sizes and keep hunger at bay by eating more regularly. It’ll keep your metabolism running high and help stop you snacking on unhealthy foods.

6 – Cut out butter from your diet. Pick up a healthier margarine; you can choose from many healthier options, such as, lower cholesterol or lower fat margarines. If the choice is available to go for a healthier option, get it.

7 – Eat less salt. Salt will push up your cholesterol levels, which raises your risk of heart disease, which when combined with obesity is a potentially dangerous combination. Eat ‘low-salt’ alternatives instead.

8- Stop frying all your foods. Instead try to bake, boil or steam them. Frying food is possibly the most unhealthy method of preparing food. The other options are far healthier, require little or no fatty oil, and will really help you with your fat burning efforts.

A word of warning…
