What Everybody Should Know About Total Cholesterol Levels

All we seem to hear about these days is that we should be reducing or lowering our cholesterol levels, as if all cholesterol is bad! The truth is that you have two types, good and bad, and it is the relationship between these that is more important to your health than your total cholesterol levels. Let me explain.

As you may be aware, you have LDL cholesterol or the bad one and HDL or the good one. If you have too much LDL it can block up your arteries and lead to premature death and heart disease.

HDL however runs through your system cleaning up excess LDL and returning it to the liver for reprocessing. So the more you have of this one, the healthier you will be.

You will find that a cholesterol chart will generally say to have around 200mg/dl of total cholesterol, 100mg/dl of LDL and at least 40mg/dl of HDL.
