Gilman Law LLP Offering Free Lawsuit Evaluations to Women Who Have Suffered Blood Clots After Using Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella Birth Control Pills

Naples, FL (PRWEB) January 02, 2012

Recent research has indicated that young women who use Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella or other birth control pills containing the progestin, drospirenone, may face a higher risk of blood clots compared to those taking other oral contraceptives. Gilman Law LLP is actively investigating potential lawsuits on behalf of the thousands of women who may have suffered life-threatening blood clots after using Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella. For more information on blood clots that may be due to Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella, click here.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is currently reviewing the safety of Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella and similar oral contraceptives. On (fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm277346.htm) October 27, 2011, the FDA released final results of an agency-funded study that confirmed that women who use such medications face an increased risk of suffering a blood clot compared to women using other hormonal contraceptives made with an older progestin called levonorgestrel. In the alert, the FDA said women in the study taking pills with drospirenone were 75 percent more likely to experience clots compared to those taking other oral contraceptives. On Thursday, the FDA?s (fda.gov/AdvisoryCommittees/Calendar/ucm273236.htm) Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee and the Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Commitees will be meeting to discuss the safety of Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella and other contraceptives made with drospirenone.

Last month, attorneys representing plaintiffs in thousands of Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella lawsuits released an expert witness report written by former FDA Commissioner David Kessler, in which Kessler asserted that Bayer AG had hidden a higher blood clot risk associated with Yasmin, the precursor to both Yaz and Ocella. According to Kessler, Bayer had documented that Yasmin was 10 times more likely to cause serious side effects, including a dangerous type of blood clot called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), in the draft of an August 2004 white paper produced by its employees. But when the paper was submitted to the FDA, the statement mentioning the increased DVT risk was omitted. Also omitted was an earlier draft opinion by company researchers that ?spontaneous reporting data do signal a difference in the VTE rates for Yasmin? compared with other oral contraceptives, Kessler said. ?Had I, or a medical review officer, known these facts prior to approval, further investigation would be warranted before a decision on Yasmin?s NDA (new drug application) could be made,? Kessler wrote, according to a report published by (news.businessweek.com/article.asp?documentKey=1376-LVQYL56S972I01-7V9D1IMKMU35U8DIJ4NU7MFOEJ)Bloomberg News.

Gilman Law LLP, a national law firm dedicated to protecting the rights of those injured by defective drugs and medical devices, is offering free, no obligation lawsuit consultations to the families of victims of blood clots that may be associated with the use of Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella. The firm is also currently accepting Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella lawsuit clients on a contingency basis. Cosmetic Dentistry After Care – How to Look After Dental Implants

Dental implants provide cosmetic dentistry patients with a long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. In order to keep your mouth healthy and ensure the treatment lasts as long as possible, they require special cleaning and care. You can treat them a lot like your natural teeth, but their care regimen is rather quite different.

The Basics Of The Treatment

This type of treatment involves a two-part installation process to ensure they remain solid and intact. First, the dentist will take molds of our jaws and install specially designed pieces of metal under your gums and against the jawbone. Once the prosthesis returns from the lab and the bone has attached itself to the metal, the oral care expert will then install a metal ‘connector’ and attach the top piece that resembles a natural tooth. This will require you to care not only for the tooth portion, but also forthe metal and surrounding area.

Special Tools For Cleaning Dental Implants

Because this dentistry appliance is installed in two separate pieces and they have additional spaces around them, it is highly recommended that you have some special cleaning tools on hand to keep them in top form. One of the first things you should have is a small dentistry toothbrush to clean in and aroundthe metal posts or connections above the gum line. Having a brush with a ‘reach’ feature or bent head is not a must, but it can definitely make them more effective and easier to use. Finally, you will need pieces of gauze or a specialized flossing system to help clean your gums, the posts, and the surrounding area.

Permanent Replacement Care

While permanent appliances are not meant to come out, the entire area needs to be cleaned. Depending on the number of false teeth you have installed and the style used, this could require the use of specific tools. The first step is to brush the appliance the same way you would your natural teeth. Because they do not come out, you want to be extra sure that the backs and areas between them are cleaned thoroughly. In addition, you want to be sure to floss in and aroundthe metal attachments.

Cleaning Tips For Removable Treatments

Removable dental implants make it easy for you to clean and inspect. You start by brushing all sides of the appliance just as you would when brushing your natural teeth. Before you put them back in, you also want to take the time to clean the posts or connectors until you are certain everything is completely free of debris or build up.

Regardless of the style, or whether you live in New York or Orange County, dental implants need to be checked at least every six months. This gives the dentistry expert a chance to ensure that everything is still in pristine condition and that they are being maintained properly. He or she will look for any damage and ensure the post is still firmly attached to the bone, check it for fit, and make sure the surrounding areas are still in good health.

Book a Spa Day After Christmas Shopping

If you’re hoping to get your Christmas shopping done in style this year, the chances are that you may be thinking about heading to London to scoop up the best Christmas gifts that all your friends and family will adore. Better yet if you’re a London resident – a quick tube or bus ride will take you exactly where you need to go and the world of Christmas commerce is at your fingertips.
<BR><BR>
For many of us, Christmas is a bittersweet season. We all love the sense of family and friendship that the festive season brings on, but it can get difficult not to resent the pains and stress of Christmas shopping that we must toil through during the build up. Even if you get your presents for your partner sussed out, there’s still your parents. Or, if you’ve managed to get your mum and dad’s gifts out of the way, there’s now your brother, sister-in-law and nieces to think about! It just never seems to end – which is why so many people end up feeling stressed out, run down and in sore need of a break by the time they’re through with shopping.
<BR><BR>
However, just as Christmas is a time for giving to others, it can also be a time for giving to yourself. If you’ve had a hard day’s Christmas shopping in London and are in need of a relaxing break, why not treat yourself? No matter what you like to do to rejuvenate your senses, there’s one thing that’s definitely at the top of many people’s Christmas lists – a trip to the spa. Whether you love having your nails buffed and polished, ache for a workout in a well-equipped gym followed by a dip in the pool and relaxing seat in the sauna or you just love being pampered in full with a relaxing back massage, a night’s rest in the spa after your day of shopping is certain to not go amiss. You can then spend some time focussing on building your energy back up and forgetting your troubles before tomorrow comes and you have to do it all over again.
<BR><BR>
Of course, even if you do need to spend a few days shopping, it may not turn out to be such a bad thing – the <a target=”_blank” href=”spas”>http://www.spaseekers.com/spa-by-region/london/1/not-only-overnight/not-only-dayspas”>spas in London</a> await to provide you with all the festive-themed relaxation you need, ensuring a very merry Christmas after all.

Lose Weight With Diet Pills

There are no two ways about it. Everybody wants to get slim to look beautiful. That is the new definition of beauty. No matter how attractive your facial features are, you have to be slim to be called beautiful. At the same time it is getting harder and harder to stay in shape mainly because our lifestyle is such that most of us do less physical work and our diet consists of high calorie junk food.
There are many ways people attempt to lose weight. Diets, pills, exercise are just a few of these methods. There are many diet pills that claim to help you get slim faster than the drop of a hat. You should be wary of such products since they can play havoc with your system. A very good example of such a weight loss pill is the Size Zero Pill. This particular pill is perhaps the latest on the weight loss circles but it is in fact, an approved FDA drug for horses and can have serious side effects on your health and can even prove fatal. It is imperative that you choose your weight loss or diet pill after careful assessment regarding its authenticity, side effects and price.

There are some completely natural and organic diet pills available that can help you slim down without any side effects. Moreover, they also help you reduce food cravings and suppress appetite naturally.

Diet pills aim to help overweight people  curb their hunger and therefore lose weight. They are invariably pharmacological substances, though herbal and other natural alternatives exist, too. If diet pills contain pharmacological agents, there is an issue of benefits vs. risks involved. Obviously, grossly obese patients with serious health risks caused by excessive weight do not have many options. However, many of the initially developed diet pills contained amphetamines. Examples of these were Dexedrine and Digoxin. These stimulants can increase heart rates to dangerous levels. Obese persons often have to reduce weight precisely because of existing or developing heart conditions. In this context, diet pills that contain amphetamines or similar stimulants present a definite risk. While they do curb hunger, they also disrupt normal sleep patterns, cause anxiety and are highly addictive. Their uncontrolled use leads to many serious problems. In fact, almost all diet pills work by disrupting some natural physical and even mental functions. This is an important point to remember.

Some active ingredients for diet pills in the recent past were phentermine and fenfluramine. These work by blocking certain metabolic feedback pathways that result in weight gain. Their use in combination apparently yielded considerable success, too. However, medical authorities took fenfluramine and its derivatives off the market when studies revealed that they could lead to heart valve damage. Topiramate and phentermine combinations are currently still in use. So are combinations of bupropion with zonisamide and naltrexone.

People tend to overeat for various reasons, many of which are psychological rather than physical. For this reason, there are pills that reduce excessive appetite because they correct a psychological or even psychiatric disorder. Again, these are not diet pills but do have the desired effect of helping curb appetite in overweight people.

I lost 30 pounds in three months. I?m not an expert, but I do speak from experience. Most of this, I learned on my own or through close friends and family members. Diet Pill Isn’t Magic Bullet

Specialist Makes Plea for Men’s Health Awareness

Professor Robert McLachlan, Consultant Andrologist at Monash IVF and Director of Andrology Australia, addressed hundreds of medical professionals attending the annual Fertility Society of Australia Conference in Brisbane encouraging a greater recognition of men’s health matters in the setting of infertility.

“Male reproductive dysfunction is the sole or contributory cause of infertility in half of the couples presenting for treatment at IVF centres”, said Professor McLachlan. He went on to say “while we have made terrific technological advancements such as ICSI that allow a normal pregnancy from many men with severe infertility, we always have a responsibility to fully evaluate men for conditions that can be treated to restore their ability to father children naturally. We must also look for conditions that are known to be more common in this group of men, and also address matters of lifestyle that could impact on fertility and their health more generally.”

These important points were also made recently by Professor McLachlan when addressing General Practitioners at a series of education lectures held by Monash IVF at several sites nationally. The aim of these educational events was to raise awareness of how to make early detection of the signs and symptoms of male and female infertility. Early intervention by lifestyle changes and/or medical treatment could then be more effective at either restoring natural fertility or improving the outcomes of medical treatments for infertility, such as IVF.

When men consult a GP or Fertility Specialist with their female partner in an effort to achieve a pregnancy it is an opportune time for lifestyle issues to be addressed whilst they are relatively young and healthy. The co-morbidities associated with poor lifestyle and infertility include testicular cancer, cardio vascular disease and androgen deficiency but, for many, the symptoms of these will not be realised until a further 20+ years down the track. For many men, their attendance with a fertility problem may be the first time they have seen a doctor for quite a while and taking the opportunity to address their holistic health care should not be missed.

Another important observation is that 70% of men with Klinefelter’s Syndrome (chromosomes XXY) escape diagnosis for their entire lifetime! This is alarming considering that a simple testicular examination would alert a Medical Practitioner to this given that testicular volume in Klinefelter’s men is around 4ml compared to the normal 30ml. Many do not have the “textbook” appearance (tall, feminised) but their health and well-being would greatly benefit from testosterone supplementation once diagnosed.

Andrology Australia has developed an excellent booklet “Your Sperm and How to Look After Them” which provides men with information on factors affecting their fertility and lifelong fertile health. It is aimed at single and partnered men of all ages. Hard copies can be obtained directly from Andrology Australia free of charge to Australian residents.

5 Things You Should Know About Using Laxatives to Lose Weight

For a number of years now, some people have resorted to “unusual” ways in which to lose weight. Unfortunately, laxatives for many people seem to be the answer to their problem. Well, this article is going to point out the reasons why you should NOT use laxatives when trying to lose weight.

The first thing to understand about using laxatives, is that although they may help digest your food a little faster than normal, using them on a regular basis will actually cause you a lot of pain. Avoid using laxatives unless you want to suffer a lot of pain when trying to lose weight.

Secondly, if you suffer from constipation there are other methods to open your bowels and relieve the tension as such. Drinking lots and lots of water is the most natural way of relieving constipation. Drink it before meals and after meals and at least eight glasses a day. Add more fibre rich foods to your diet as they help to speed up bowel movement.

Thirdly, if you are on any sort of medication currently, laxatives can actually make your medication less effective. In many cases they can actually remove any effect your medication is supposed to have for you. This is a great reason to avoid them.

Fourthly, the only thing you will lose by taking laxatives is water and body fluids. You will not lose fat with them. To become thinner and lose weight you need to burn fat and not lose body fluids. Taking laxatives will actually end up with your body becoming dehydrated. They collect water from your body and then pass them through your bowel movements. When this happens you will lose all your water and become dehydrated.

If you use laxatives and this happens, you could possibly be misled or fooled into thinking you have lost weight, but in reality you have not lost any fat, which is what real weight loss is all about.

Lastly, when your body becomes dehydrated through using laxatives it will begin to store water so that it can survive. Better known as water retention, this will make you feel bloated and will actually increase your weight.

The truth is if you use laxatives to try to lose weight, you will actually end up weighing more. Avoid taking laxatives at all costs because not only will you end up heavier, but it could have a detrimental effect on your overall health.

So there you have it. If you are considering using laxatives, then I hope the information in this article will help you to realise it is a bad option to consider?

About Women?s Health and Pregnancy

There is no normal, healthy condition as stressful and dangerous as pregnancy. Many parts of a woman’s normal lifestyle can become a health risk when a woman is pregnant. Every woman should see her doctor as soon as possible when she suspects she may be pregnant and she should follow the doctor’s suggestions; maintain good nutrition and much more.

The good thing is that usually, the things a pregnant woman gives up are bad for her and the things she needs to do are good for her. Usually, women’s health and pregnancy go hand in hand.

Health Times Two

A woman who expects to become pregnant should already be living a healthy lifestyle. Smoking is possibly the worst thing for women’s health and pregnancy. Smoking increases a woman’s risk of heart disease, lung disease and can adversely affect just about every physical system in the body. Don’t wait until you are pregnant to quit. You wouldn’t invite a stranger into a smoke-filled home, don’t do it to your child. Begin your prenatal vitamin regimen as soon as possible including folic acid and iron.

And remember, the vitamins are all the “eating for two” you need to do for quite a while. Avoid toxic substances. Even paint fumes can be harmful to women’s health and pregnancy. Don’t eat undercooked meats or clean up after your cat while pregnant. Toxoplasmosis is very dangerous to an unborn baby. Increase your hand washing, too.

Weight gain is normal during pregnancy. If you are over- or underweight normally, you may need to consult a nutritionist during your pregnancy to monitor your weight gain and diet. If morning sickness is a problem, try eating six small meals instead of three large ones. Don’t let the queasy feelings make you skip too many meals.

Medication can be a problem during pregnancy. If you have a chronic disorder that requires medication, consult your doctor as soon as possible – even before becoming pregnant if possible. Sometimes women’s health and pregnancy become a tradeoff temporarily. That goes for over the counter medications, too. Check with your doctor before taking pain killers or cold medication. Cold medication can contain alcohol which is harmful to the baby. That also means cutting out alcoholic beverages while pregnant and nursing. Consult your doctor about physical activity.

Usually, the amount and type of exercise that was normal prior to pregnancy will be safe during at least most of the pregnancy. New types of exercise should be monitored by your doctor. By taking the sensible precautions, women’s health and pregnancy can get along just fine.
