Should I be weighing myself every day? This is a common question I get asked as a weight loss coach. I do find that many people put way too much importance on what the scale is reading and that number can influence how they act and how they feel about themselves. For my christian clients I suggest a unique approach to weighing-in and this is what I would like to share in this article.
Christians are of course familiar with the story of Jesus fasting for 40 days and nights in the desert. During this time the devil appear to him and tempted him to demonstrate his powers but with each temptation Jesus would revoke the devil with scripture. Having failed, the devil departed and angels brought Jesus nourishment.
Now, I certainly am not asking clients to fast for 40 days and nights but I am asking them to not weigh themselves for 40 days and nights and during that time period stick with their dieting plan.
What I find is a transformation in the thoughts of my clients. They no longer put their trust in the scale and instead start to trust themselves and their plan. They no longer have the anxiety that used to surround the conflicting internal dialog that centered around the question, “should I be weighing myself every day?” And this helps them stay true to their set course.
Weight loss does take time but it will happen when you put forth a consistent effort yet that consistent effort takes faith. Your weight will fluctuate every day because your body is dynamic, some days it will retain more water than others because your body in its own wisdom sees a need for that extra water.
So to answer the question, “Should I be weighing myself every day?” It is up to you but I hope this article has given you a new perspective on the scale which can help you take a new approach in your weight loss journey.
