Many people are looking for those quick ways to lose weight and liquid diets are very popular. Originally, a liquid diet was given to a patient before surgery. Today, liquid diets can be broken up into two different groups; low calorie diets and meal replacement diets.
A doctor may recommend the low calorie liquid diet if someone needs to lose a great deal of weight in a very short time. However, this form of diet is not recommended for long-term use even under the supervision of a doctor. The meal replacement liquid diet may take the place of a meal once or twice a day. This type of liquid diet is a little safer and one does not completely quit taking in solid foods.
A liquid diet may be made up of fresh fruit juices or vegetables. The juices can also be made into a shake form to help give some texture to the drink. Many other supplements can be added to the liquid mixture but you should be careful of what you add. Sugar and other flavors may discount the advantages of the liquid diet. Some diets will have you add . Still others may include other vitamins and minerals that your body needs to keep it working while you are on this type of diet.
Be careful when you get on a liquid diet because when you are done with it, the weight you lost will most likely come back very quickly if you are not extremely careful. Liquid diets can help you to meet a short-term goal but are not really a great way to lose the long-term weight you need to. If you make the liquid diet part of your regular routine, try to limit yourself to one meal replacement a day so that you do not starve your body of too much nutritional materials needed.

Time-out usually works for most specific behaviors that are unacceptable in children with autism. Many parents, teachers, caregivers agree, that putting a child with autism in a time-out zone, is usually effective to curb their intolerable behavior.
How long should one keep their child in a time-out zone? Experts and parents have found that the average time for the child with autism, depending on the severity of the behavior that was initiated, it is wise not to keep the child in a time-out zone for more than about five to ten minutes.
When one decides it is necessary to reduce the unacceptable behavior, it is imperative that the time-out zone, is clear and empty of toys, television, games, people and anything the child likes, which includes, parents, teachers, family members and caregivers, who are advised to ignore the child that is placed in the time-out zone.
If the child continues to resume the behavior that was to be halted, another time-out might be necessary, so the individual will understand that he/she, will not continue with the behavior that is intolerable.
If the young person starts to cry, kick, act-out in any other way, it might be wise to extend the time-out to a longer period of time. That also depends on the level of the child who has autism.
One thing to keep in mind and be aware of, is the time-out behavior management does not always work or is successful for every child with autism. There are many autistic children who enjoy being alone in a room, with no toys, television, digital video discs or videos, games and books. For those individuals, to correct or halt their behavior and have them enter a time-out zone, will probably not reduce the unacceptable behavior.
It is important to know and try to understand the needs of the child with autism and how they react to time-out. Parents may want to take into consideration and try other behavior management, if the time-out is not being successful.
It is imperative for all who are in charge of the child at different times of the day, that they are familiar with the various behaviors the child with autism might have. For example, temper tantrums, anger outbursts, kicking, biting, throwing objects, running out of the room into the street, and not following instructions.
Parents may want to take into consideration, if the time-out zone is usually the same area, and the child is not responding to the time-out, for the behavior that is to be reduced or stopped, it might be wise to change the time-out zone to a different area, that is also safe.
Every child is completely different and unique. What might work for one child with autism for behavior management, might not work for the other. It takes patience and consistency to be in aware of what works best for behavior management with an individual with autism. Never give up.

There are few more divisive topics in the American cultural landscape than the out of control prices of medical care.
Reformists announce that the amounts have ballooned out of proportion to all separate specialties and that continued increases cannot be maintained.
Insurance companies and healthcare price apologists affirm that it is at worst a response to the increasing technological provisions and controversial natural state of the culture.
Caught in the going between of this ideological box are the average folks that are demand to pay dearly for medical care. This action is especially hard for those who find yourselves in need of medically necessary weight reduction surgical treatment and cannot fund the cost of lap band surgery or a gastric bypass surgery.
This is crafted more problematic in which time numerous insurance companies decline to bear the expense of any costs for bariatric treatments. The numbers for any surgical treatment, lap band or otherwise, are fluid by nature.
Facilities in low wage areas appear to charge less, whilst facilities in urban or high end whereaboutses aim to up their prices.
Nowadays, an individual that is in the business for a lap band procedure can anticipate, at the least lowest part of the yardstick, to pay approximately $18,000 to $20,000 for a lap band operation.
At the peak end, the costs gush into the $35,000 to $40,000 region. This generally disregards any follow up care. In added words, these are operations that are not affordable by the average person.
To aim to deal with these unattainable costs, a new service has begun to bloom in modern years. Medical facilitation services have begun developing alliances with special hospitals and medical facilities abroad of the U.S, where prices have not reached a fever pitch.
Mexico, for example, has medical centers that specialize in bariatric procedures. The area that is acceptable to most consumers is that the cost of lap band surgery or gastric bypass is a bare fraction of what it amounts in the U.S.
On average, the cost of lap band surgery in Mexico is about 20% of the American cost. Whilst not pocket change, it is a price that can be afforded.
The purpose of the medical travel companies is to coordinate the travel arrangements as well as the medical and surgical treatment between the doctors in Mexico and the patients. They are usually affiliated with a network of quality board certified specialists and JCI accredited hospitals.

The term “DICOM Viewer” can be slightly confusing, as it implies that such a viewer is a proprietary machine. Actually, DICOM viewers can be any standard PC with the proper software, along with a high-end video card and sufficient processing power. However, a computer functioning as a DICOM viewer requires an exceptionally clear, high-resolution monitor.
The Origins of DICOM
The term “DICOM” itself refers to a standard imaging format, much like “.jpg,” “.png,” “.bmp” and “.tiff.” It stands for “Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine,” and is used to view and store images created with medical imaging devices such as the MRI, CT and the X-Ray.
Thirty years ago, each manufacturer of an imaging machine had a virtual “lock” on the ability to view the images made with that machine. For example, if the hospital had an MRI made by Company X and the radiology clinic across town had one made by Company Y, it was almost impossible for one institution’s equipment to view the imaging created by the other.
DICOM has been an ongoing effort on the part of the radiology community to standardize medical images in a way that can be viewed by any authorized person using a generic type of device. It is the third version of this standard, released in 1993 and still undergoing upgrades and modifications. Today, it is almost universally accepted among both manufacturers of medical imaging equipment and health care institutions and their IT departments.
The DICOM Difference
What makes the DICOM standard different from other image file formats is that it saves information in “data sets;” in addition to the image information itself, a DICOM file contains specific patient information, thus eliminating the risk that this information will get separated from the image itself.
DICOM Viewers and e-Film Workstation
The Ohio State University Medical Center was the first civilian institutions to have what we would recognize as a DICOM Viewer. Known as a PACS, or Picture Archiving and Communication System, the device cost over $250,000 when it was put into place in the early 1990s. Nonetheless, within ten years, the system had paid for itself four times over by reducing the cost and time required to diagnose a case and eliminating the need for toxic and expensive film development chemicals. Today, an affordable PACS can be installed in any clinic at prices starting around $5000. By installing DICOM Viewer software such as eFilm Workstation™, any moderately-priced personal computer can be used to view medical images over a local area network (LAN) or the World Wide Web.
Well first of all, don’t panic! Everybody comes across sunburn at least once in there lives, sometimes, it’s unavoidable! If you ever do get sunburn, it’s important you first know what to do during the 3 different phases.
Phase one is the most commonly suffered phase of sunburn, but as common as it may be, it’s still painful, and still considered a dangerous stage, albeit the least dangerous. Phase one is more uncomfortable than anything. In minor cases, people find there’s a lot of heat in there skin, and in more serious cases of Phase One, people can find movement difficult (for example, reaching up for things etc) and the affected areas quite sensitive to the touch. Remember, a sunburn is exactly what is sounds like, a burn to the skin caused by the sun, so you need to treat it as such.
Phase two is typically indicated by small blisters. These blisters have been known to cause considerate pain, but as long as they are only small and ‘phase 2′ blisters, they should start to go away within 5-10 days. It’s essential that you do not pierce, pop or scratch them, you must leave them to heal themselves, and let them burst on there own. If you pop them yourself, especially if you have dirty hands, it could cause infection and lead to scarring. If you are unsure as to the seriousness of your blisters, it’s best to seek medical advice.
Phase 3 is the most painful phase of sunburn, but as well as this, it’s also the most dangerous, so it’s important you know how to recognise it, so that you can immediately seek medical attention. Phase 3 is known to cause large, water filled blisters and skin eruptions. Both these are very dangerous, so it’s imperative you immediately seek medical advice and attention, because if left they can lead to wide-spread infection, and even cellular damage. Similar to phase two, the key to this phase is to not pop your blisters, and try not to catch them, or rub them after showering, and instead pat them dry. Your doctor should be able to prescribe something to help and prevent infection, so it’s important, upon recognizing these symptoms, you immediately visit your local practitioner.
Some new information regarding your health and beauty to remember – infrared radiation in sunlight increases levels of free radicals and collagen-destroy enzymes in the skin. Conclusion: sun destroys collagen!
If you do get caught in the sun, there are a few things you can do to help relieve the pain, and sometimes prevent phase one from progressing into phase two.
One main tip is to get out of the sun. A lot of people think that they’re ‘already burned’ so why not stay out for another couple of hours… This is wrong, and by doing this you’re only causing more damage, and worsening your burns. The extra time spent in the sun can cause mild sunburn to progress into blisters, so if you’ve been burned, then get out, and stay out of the sun.
Another important tip to mention is that most people find it helpful to have cold showers or baths to take the heat out of the skin during phase one. Another handy tip if you feel like you want to lie in a cold bath forever, is milk and tea. Milk and tea are fantastic when it comes to cooling the skin. Used teabags, put with ice to keep them cool, are often praised as the tea works as an antioxidant and draws heat out of the skin. If you wish to use milk, Apply cool, not cold, milk with a clean cloth or gauze to your skin. The coolness soothes the initial heat felt by the skin and the milk will create a protein film that helps ease the discomfort.
And when it comes to sunscreen, remember to apply 20 minutes before leaving so it has time to work, and don’t forget an SPF lip balm! Our lips can burn too, and it’s just as uncomfortable, so it’s definitely worth thinking about.
It’s important to remember that sometimes getting sunburned can be unavoidable! But it is somewhat preventable, or at the very least, to reach no further then a minor phase 1. Always remember, for your health and beauty, avoid spending too much time in the sun, especially between 11am – 3pm, when the sun is at its highest and most lethal point. And always apply sunscreen lotion or cream having a minimum SPF of 15. Apply sunscreen in generous amount and reapply it after being in sun for long period. And don’t forget! Sunscreen gets reduced by sweating or swimming.

Treating health problems through homeopathy is not a brand new process. In reality, in lots of European countries it’s no longer regarded as “alternative” medicine. In France, for example, over 30% of general practitioners prescribe homeopathic products. In The UK, the number is well over 40% .
Although homeopathy is not as common in America, it continues to achieve increasing respect throughout the medical community and has offered many Americans an alternative solution form of self- care.
What are the benefits? Quite simply, homeopathic products provide a pure approach to healthcare. Its healing strategy places its emphasis on the capability of your own body to heal itself. Homeopathic medicines are organic, potent, inexpensive and are without side effects.
What are the basics of the homeopathic philosophy? The philosophy of established homeopathy is over 200 years old. In the past, classical homeopathy has become often known as a medical method used for many acute and continual healthcare issues. It works by administering organic “treatments” which strengthen the body’s natural defense system.
This healing method was created by a German doctor and chemist, Samuel Hahnemann, at the end of the 18th century. Homeopathy functions through the use of what Hahnemann named “the law of similars” (or treating like with like) . This law as he defined it, says: “any substance which will provoke symptoms when given to healthy individuals can help to heal people who are beset by similar symptoms. “
We see the facts in this assertion frequently in our own present procedures. Immunization entails very little doses of an agent of illness used to immunize patients against the disease. Hahnemann took his tactic one step further. He advised giving “therapeutic drugs” to “healthy” people, after that documenting any physiological properties.
These tests or “provings” (Hahnermann did over 100 of these upon himself) established a baseline of physical, emotional, and mental symptoms distinctive to each “technique” and also the necessary dosage (as a rule very small) which both instigated the symptoms and were used to treat the conditon.
He catalogued his conclusions in what is now generally known as the homeopathic manual: “The Organon of Rational Medicine”, The Individualized Approach To Treating With Homeopathy, published in 1811. The main difference concerning homeopathic process and Western medical treatment then, lies in its individualistic technique.
Instead of isolating and treating just one or two symptoms, homeopathy is individualized by taking into consideration the whole physical and psychological factors of the entire being, i. e. the “holistic” approach. If we’re to return the body to a state of balance from a state of illness, homeopathy rationalizes, we need to find out about the keys to the language of the body.
In homeopathy it is believed that illness comes about in consequence of a personal imbalance. Or, to put it another way, the physical body, in homeopathic terms, is thought to manifest complaints from the subconscious mind. Treating a patient with homeopathy or what we would consider “constitutional homeopathy, ” entails a comprehensive diagnostic proceeding.
It aims to use symptoms as a means to find out cause for the fundamental disease. Homeopaths accept as true that symptoms usually do not occur in a vacuum. Consequently, symptoms are believed to evolve from just one “constitutional” weakness, which can then be remedied.
The process is that of determining the correct cure. As opposed to classic medicine, one prescription is not given for each specific symptom i. e. headache, depression, stomach ache. Alternatively homeopathy uses one single remedy at a time. Some variations do exist and mixtures of homeopathic remedies are made in a “combination” formula.
On the other hand, more commonly there is a only a small single dose prescribed of any specific “remedy. ” The intention being to induce the body to cure itself without over-medication. In homeopathic terms, the treatment is “potentized” or taken in the least possible dose that can bring about a response.
This is, of necessity, a very brief overview of homeopathy, and I would recommend anyone with an interest in the subject, or contemplating using homeopathy for any condition, to read and study as much as possible about the subject. There are several wonderful sources of information, the internet being one, and most surely consult an experienced homeopath plus your general physician before embarking upon this course.

Twenty years ago, “affordable PACS” for small clinics, private practices and non-profit health care facilities did not exist. The reason is that the computer technology needed for DICOM archive capabilities was still extremely expensive; only the military and major university medical centers could afford a Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS). In fact, it was such a university medical center that was the first civilian institution to have such equipment; the Ohio State University Medical Center installed a PACS in the early 1990s.
The cost was over a quarter-million dollars – well out of reach for most public hospitals and clinics.
A Happy Ending
Over the next ten years, the OSHMC PACS station proved to be an excellent investment; the time between patient diagnosis and case dictation was cut down to under three hours, and the digitized system had nearly eliminated the need for costly film development chemicals and equipment. By 2001, the OSU PACS had saved the Medical Center over a million dollars.
Affordable PACS Today
Another thing that has happened over the past two decades is that the cost of computers and technology has dropped dramatically. By installing DICOM archive and reader software along with a high-end video card, then maximizing RAM and investing in a high-resolution monitor, any personal computer can become a PACS – for a price starting out at around $5000. This makes it possible for virtually any clinic or private practice to benefit from PACS technology.
What About Mini-PACS?
A “mini-PACS” is one that is highly specialized, able to read medical images from only one or two modalities. In the past, this has been a way for clinics without unlimited funding and which specialize in one sub-field to get started in digital imaging and archiving. Today, the trend is toward more generalization; fortunately, the DICOM standard makes it easier to integrate a mini-PACS with a larger system as the budget allows.
When building a PACS, you have a number of choices when it comes to DICOM software. There are a number of free DICOM readers available on the Web as well as proprietary ones, such as the eFilm Workstation and Sony Filmstation. The most expensive part of a PACS today is the monitor; because of the nature of medical imaging, a very high-resolution monitor is required.
Still, at such a low cost that make them affordable, PACS are something no health care facility should be without.
